Obituary of Jordan Myron Fendell

Jordan Myron Fendell Jordan Myron Fendell, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls and the surrounding area, died Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Phelps Memorial Hospital. He was 79. Son of the late Samuel and Jenny Kopelman Fendell, he was born May 9, 1927 in Sommerville, Massachusetts. Mr. Fendell proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy where he served as a fireman aboard the USS Topeka. He graduated from the University of Arizona at Tucson and went on to receive his Master's degree from Russell Sage College. Mr. Fendell was a gifted teacher not only with Beacon City School District and later the Wassaic Developmental Center but all throughout his life educating many students, family and friends. He was an avid bicyclist, belonging to numerous bike clubs where he was able to bike through out the country and the world. His other loves included photography and traveling which he shared with his family. Survivors include his daughters, Edith Warg of Wappingers Falls and Elana Roberts of New York City; his brother, Melvin Fendell of California; and his three grandchildren, Elizabeth Allen, Rebekah Lancto and Jolie Roberts. He was predeceased by his brother, David Fendell and his sister, Gertrude LeBoff. Funeral services will be at 1 pm on Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Beacon Hebrew Alliance Cemetery, Osborne Hill Road, Fishkill. The family will sit shiva at the home of Edith Warg through Wednesday evening. Elana Roberts will continue shiva at her home in New York City through Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dutchess ARC, 1435 Route 44, Pleasant Valley, NY 12569.
