Theodore C. Mourges
Theodore C. Mourges of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at his residence. He was 83.
Son of the late Constantine and Panagiota Rengepis Mourges, he was born on November 3, 1922 in Kalamata, Greece. He immigrated to the United States in 1940. He was then drafted into the United States Army in July of 1944; during his service he was made a U.S. Citizen. On May 21, 1945, while on a tour of duty in Okinawa, Mr. Mourges was wounded. For his courage and dedication during this time, he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
On January 1, 1951, Theodore married the love of his life, Esther Cakouros, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Mount Vernon; she precedes him in death, passing on June 12, 2001. He remained a member of Holy Trinity until he moved to Wappingers Falls; he then became a parishioner of Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Mourges also co-owned and operated the Beehive Restaurant in Mount Vernon from 1957-1973.
Survivors include his son, John T. Mourges and his wife, Rose of Wappingers Falls; his daughter, Patrice Lauricella and her husband, Ted of Yorktown; his brother, Vasili Mourges and his sister, Voula Mourges, both of Kalamata, Greece; his grandchildren, Jason and Dena Lauricella, and Ted and Stephen Mourges; and two very special and supportive families, the Marchetti's and the Macio's, all of Wappingers Falls.
In addition to his wife, Esther, he is predeceased by his 3 sisters and two brothers.
Family will receive their friends on Friday, October 27, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A funeral service will be held at 9 am on Saturday, October 28 at the Greek Orthodox Church of Kimisis, South Grand Avenue in Poughkeepsie with Father Nicholas Pastrikos presiding. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
Memorial donations may be made in Theodore's name to Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
