John Melochick
John Melochick of the Town of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Saturday, November 25, 2006 at is residence. He was 88.
Son of the late Alexander and Clara Szczypczyk Melochick, he was born on May 9, 1918 in St. Clair, Pennsylvania.
John served his country in the United States Army during World War II earning many decorations and commendations such as the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal and the Victory Medal. He then went on to work as a pipe insulator for Marine Pipe Repair in New York City. John was also very active in the American Legion, locally at Post #1302 in Arlington and also in Staten Island; he belonged collectively for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ferry Melochick; his step-children, Richard Schwedo and Carol DuPilka; and his step-grandchildren, Dustin DuPilka, Kory DuPilka, Daniel Schwedo and Kassandra Monopoli.
Mr. Melochick is predeceased by his brothers, Steve and Thomas Melochick and his sisters, Anna, Theresa, Julia and Mary.
Family will receive their friends on Thursday, November 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, December 1 at 10:15 a.m. at St. Martin dePorres Church, Cedar Valley Road in Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 205 East 42nd Street New York, NY 10017.
