Margaret A. Duffy
Margaret A. Duffy, a longtime resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Sunday, December 10, 2006 at her home. She was 76.
Born of Irish immigrant parents, Bill Cassidy and Bridget Donahoe, she was born November 22, 1930 in Bronx, New York. She was very proud of her Irish heritage. Growing up in the Westchester Square area of the Bronx, she enjoyed swimming, ice skating, sleigh riding and snow ball fights. She graduated from Cathedral High School in New York City. She enjoyed people and her quick wit left many people smiling and laughing.
She married Patrick Duffy at St. Raymond's Church, Bronx on February 6, 1954. They recently celebrated their fifty second wedding anniversary. She received an honorary doctorate of motherhood from the University of Hard Knocks having raised four boys, Kevin, Keith, Gerard, and Brian.
Mrs. Duffy was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Church, Poughkeepsie. She also was an avid bridge player.
In addition to her husband and fours sons, she is survived by her eight grandchildren, Cory, Michael, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Christopher, Shauna, Danielle and Joseph; two great-grandchildren, Bridget and Noah and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 14 at St. Martin de Porres Church, Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
