Obituary of James F. Hannigan

James F. Hannigan, Jr. James F. Hannigan Jr., a resident of New Hamburg, entered into rest Saturday July 7, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 74. Son of the late James and Margaret Dorhman Hannigan, he was born December, 3, 1932 in Poughkeepsie, New York. He married Joyce Wacker on November 28, 1951 in Port Ewen, NY, who preceded him in death on September 30, 1990. Prior to his retirement on March 1, 1987, Jim was a system analyst for IBM Corp. in Poughkeepsie, NY. Until recently, Jim also worked for Straub Funeral Home in Wappingers Falls. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim was a life member of the New Hamburg Fire Dept. Station 1. He also volunteered his services to the Dutchess Co. Fire Police Association, Dutchess Co. Police Response Team, Dutchess Co. Fireman's Association, Hudson Valley Volunteer Fireman's Association, NYS Volunteer Fireman's Association, NYS Volunteer Association and the NYS Fire Police Association. He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Westermann and her husband, Ed; his son, James Hannigan and his wife, Kris; his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kevin Westermann, James, Jason and Krystal Hannigan. Jim is also survived by a his companion, Peggy Young, a brother, Larry Hannigan of Woodstock, GA,and a sister, Rita Connor of Cary, NC.He was also predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Hannigan. Family will receive their friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, July 9 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, Wappingers Falls, NY.
