James Broast
James "Jimmy" Broast, 69, formerly of Hopewell Junction, NY and beloved husband of Marianne Cerniglia Broast, died Friday, September 14, 2007, at home in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, after a four-year courageous battle with brain cancer. Born on November 9, 1937 in Germantown, N.Y., he was the son of the late John Joseph Broast and Mildred Anna Cross Broast.
Jimmy graduated from Germantown High School in 1956 and lived most of his life in New York. He is an Exempt Fireman serving the Clermont Fire Department for many years; coached Little League; was a volunteer for Dutchess County Outreach; and was a member of the St. Rocco Society in Beacon, NY. He was an avid NY Yankee, NY Giant and Boston Celtic fan. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. After retiring from IBM as a Marketing Engineer in 1991 with 35 years of service, he traveled and lived worldwide alongside his wife Marianne for five years.
Jimmy was a devote member of the Roman Catholic Church. He was honored to serve as alter boy for the Carmelite Sisters Home for the Aged and Infirm, in Germantown, N.Y. from 1944-1958. One of his most treasured memories was when he attended an Audience with Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. Jimmy was a former parish member of St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls, NY and a parish member of St. Brendan The Navigator Church, Shallotte, NC.
In addition to his loving wife Marianne, Jimmy is survived by four children from a previous marriage: Karen Winters and John Broast, both of Tivoli, NY; Gregory Broast of Stottville, NY; and Lori Spragus, of Hudson, NY; a sister, Diane Lown of Tivoli, NY; two brothers, Ronald of Elizaville, NY, Bernard of Germantown, NY; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two nieces and three nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome at the Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY, on, Tuesday, September 18, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral services for Jimmy will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, September 19, at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls, NY. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
