Obituary of Mercedes Pisano

Mercedes Pisano Mercedes Pisano of Poughkeepsie entered into rest on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Lutheran Care Center. She was 94. Daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline Gurgui Perez, she was born on November 18, 1912 in Brooklyn. She married the love of her life, Albert F. Pisano on October 20, 1946 at Good Shepherd Church in Brooklyn; he precedes her in death, passing in September of 1975. Mrs. Pisano worked as a manager for Floyd's in Flatbush, Brooklyn for many years. Formerly of Brooklyn, she has spent her last few years living in Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie; she considered the staff and her friends there her second family. There, she belonged to the Red Hat Society. She was also a former member of St. Edmund's Senior Center in Brooklyn. In life, Mercedes had many loves; she enjoyed gardening, ceramics, music and cooking for her family "with love". Most importantly, she loved her family. She lived for her family and always had a strong presence in their lives. She especially took pride in her grandchildren and their many accomplishments. Survivors include her daughters, Paulette M. Hoffman and her husband, Daniel and Roberta Diggins and her husband, Matthew, all of Poughkeepsie; brother, Joseph Perez of Port Charlotte, FL; grandchildren, Lisa Schaller and her husband, Jeff of Rochester, Matthew Diggins of Queens, Mark Hoffman of Bedminster, NJ, Robert Hoffman of Yonkers, Scott Hoffman of Poughkeepsie and Kristin Lehet and her husband, Justin of Long Island; great-granddaughter, Jessica Mercedes; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers, Angelo and Frank, and her sister, Conchita. Mercedes' family would like to thank Lutheran Care Center for their years of support and Dutchess County Hospice for their compassion; they are very special people in their hearts. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, October 18, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 19 at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church, Batchelder Street in Brooklyn. Interment will follow in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or Flower City Down Syndrome Network, 940 Holt Road #324, Webster, NY 14580.
