Obituary of Jean Kowalsky

Jean Kowalsky Town of Poughkeepsie�Jean Kowalsky, 67, of the Town of Poughkeepsie died at St. Francis Hospital on Saturday, October 20, 2007, surrounded by her husband and family. Jean was previously diagnosed with kidney failure and fought a brave battle, which included dialysis treatments. Jean was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 22, 1940 to Edwin and Julia DeMott. She spent the majority of her life in Brooklyn. After a brief, happy courtship, she married Stephen Kowalsky on September 8, 1962; he survives at home. Jean and Stephen had three daughters together. Jean worked for many years as bookkeeper and fiscal officer for the non-profit National Congress of Neighborhood Women in Brooklyn. After leaving her position there, she worked as a bookkeeper for several different companies until moving to Fishkill in 1996. In 2001, she and her husband moved to the Town of Poughkeepsie. Jean was a loving person with a quick wit who will be greatly missed by all her knew and loved her. Jean is survived by her husband Stephen, at home; daughter Barbara Cruz of Town of Poughkeepsie; daughter Linda Zoufaly and son-in-law Larry of Hopewell Junction; daughter Julia Fishman and husband Ben of New Paltz. Jean is survived by six grandchildren who absolutely adored her and wished to spend every free minute at Grandma's: Robert and Samantha Cruz; Larry and Meghan Zoufaly; Kate and Noah Fishman. Jean is also survived by her loving brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter and Yvonne Kowalsky of the Bronx, as well as other siblings and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive their friends on Monday, October 22, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, October 23 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
