Obituary of Margaret Melochick

Margaret Melochick God's daughter, Margaret Melochick, went to be with Him on December 7, 2007 joining all those loving relatives who have passed on before her. Daughter of the late Carlton and Margaret Smarsch Ferry she was born on September 12, 1921 in Mt, Holly, NJ, She was 86. She is survived by her son Richard Shwedo, her daughter Carol DuPilka, her former son-in-law Lou DuPilka who was just like one of her children, her grandchildren Dustin DuPilka and his wife Sondra of Poughkeepsie, Kory DuPilka of Orlando, Fl, Daniel Shwedo and his wife Robyn of New Bedford, Mass, and her grandson-in-law Dominick Monopoli of Hopewell Junction, NY She was predeceased by he Brother Richard Ferry, her sister Jeanne Sudia, her first husband Joseph Shwedo, her second husband John Melochick and her granddaughter Kassandra Monopoli. She is also survived by four great grandchildren. Margaret treated life as an adventure. She was always ready to embrace new challenges. She was a m other, wife, athlete and artist. She always strived to do her best at whatever she put her hand to. As a young woman she swam in the 1939 World's Fair in New York in the Billie Rose Aquacade. She was a little league coach when only men held such positions in the 40's and played on several softball teams. She coached CYO swimming and at one time was an avid bowler. She was a member of the American Legion Post # 1302 and also the Arlington Fire Auxiliary. She worked for many years as a secretary and was employed by St. Mary's Catholic Church, Swenson Farms, Dutchess County Social Services and Marist College. She volunteered for years at Castle Point VA Hospital and was currently volunteering faithfully at St. Francis Hospital. Family will receive their friends on Sunday December 9, 2007 from 2-5 P.M. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin de Porres Church Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie, NY on Monday December 10th at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margaret's name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 205 E. 42nd St., New York, NY 10017.
