Obituary of Joyce T. Massey

Joyce T. Massey Joyce T. Massey of Wappingers Falls entered into rest on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie after a very courageous three year battle with lung cancer. She was 71. Daughter of the late Albert and Louise Davies Townsend, she was born on July 9, 1936 in Utica. She married the love of her life, Robert H. Massey on June 1, 1957 in the Congregational Church, Paris Hill; Mr. Massey survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Massey was proud to make a loving home for her husband and her four children. She was a very loving person and constantly cared for her family and friends, no matter when you showed up Joyce would wine and dine you. In her spare time, she enjoyed many local clubs such as the IBM Chorus, the Twilight Bowling League and the IBM Rainbow Bowling League. In addition to her loving husband, Robert, she is survived by her children, Dale R. Massey of Wappingers Falls, Cheryl A. Massey of Wappingers Falls, Diane M. Mucci and her husband, Alan of Poughkeepsie, and Brian M. Massey and his wife, Lisa of Poughkeepsie; brothers, Carl Townsend and his wife, Betty of Paris Station, and Max Townsend and his wife, Edna of Sauquoit; five grandchildren, Megan Massey, Anthony and Matthew Mucci, and Sean and Kyle Massey; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of South Circle 5 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Dr. Reyes and the staff at Dyson Center for Cancer Care for their care and compassion during these difficult times. Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 30 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joyce's name to the Dyson Center for Cancer Care, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
