Obituary of Robert Frederick Piggott

Robert Frederick Piggott Robert Frederick Piggott of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 74. Son of the late Frederick and Martha Hansman Piggott, he was born on June 28, 1931 in Poughkeepsie. He wed his loving wife Gertrude Hahn on December 27, 1958 at the First Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie. They remained happily married for over 45 years. Robert attended Wappingers Schools, graduating from Wappingers High School in 1948. He went on to earn his bachelor degree at Oswego and his master's at Columbia University in New York. He taught for 31 years in the Wappingers Falls School District as an Industrial Arts/Technology teacher. He also loved his time on his farm acting as owner and operator of Piggott's Farm in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Mr. Piggott was very active in his community. He was a former Dutchess County Legislator for District 6, as well as a member of the committee to save Vassar Cider Mill. He participated in many groups acting as lifelong Elder for the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls, past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Wappingers Falls, past Master of Oak Grove Grange, past Deputy and member of New York State Grange, member of Dutchess County Pomona Grange and National Grange and past member of Citizen Task Force on Deer Management sponsored by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Besides his loving wife Trudy at home, he is survived by his sons, Mark Frederick Piggott and his wife, Lisa of Staatsburg, NY and Jim Piggott and his wife, Judy of Topsham, Maine; daughter, Barbara Jean Walker and her husband, Mark of California; and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Amanda, Megan, Kerry, Monica and Aaron. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, September 1, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 A funeral service will be held Friday, September 2, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls on South Avenue. Entombment will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum in Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Robert's name to First Presbyterian Church, 2568 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
