Obituary of Elaine H. Snowden

Elaine H. Snowden of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Monday, September 8, 2014 at Lutheran Care Center. She was 87. Daughter of the late Alan and Virginia Mitendorf Harcourt, she was born April 19, 1927 in Ossining. She married Frederick A. Snowden, Jr. in 1945 in Spartanburg, South Carolina; he preceded her in death passing on March 24, 1987. Elaine was the Town of Wappinger Clerk from November 4, 1965 to December 31, 2000. She was a member of the Dutchess County Town Clerks Association. In her spare time she served on Grinnell Library Board of Trustees, was a committee member of John T. Sloper Community Fund, Life and former board member of Sloper-Willen Community Ambulance Service, a member of the Wappingers Falls Cemetery, Inc. Board of Directors, Past President of the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls and member of the New Hackensack Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary. When her children were small, Elaine acted as a Boy Scout leader and Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed playing tennis, gardening roses and cooking. She had a love of travel and especially enjoyed "River Cruises". Survivors include her daughter, Sandy Snowden-Albano and her husband, Joe of Staatsburg; granddaughter, Lacey Snowden of Wappingers Falls; and great-grandchildren, Sara and Nicholas, and their mother, Melissa. In addition to her husband, Fred, she was predeceased by her son, James A. Snowden on February 1, 2007, her daughter-in-law, Jean Snowden on January 27, 2014, her sister, Elizabeth Fenaughty, and her grandson, Keith L. Snowden on July 4, 2013. Family will receive friends on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will take place during visitation at 6:30 p.m. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
