John E. Chapman
John E. Chapman, lifelong resident of New Hamburg, entered into rest Thursday, March 27, 2008 at home. He was 61.
Son of Stanley "Bucky" Chapman and the late Florence Scardefield Chapman, he was born on March 3, 1947 in Poughkeepsie.
John worked in housekeeping for Castle Point VAMC until his retirement. He formerly was employed by IBM. John served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam; he was very proud to be a Seabee. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, and hunting and fishing with his father. He also loved listening to classical music.
In addition to his father, Bucky of New Hamburg, he is survived by his sister, Mary Hornbeck and her husband, Roy of Port St. Lucie, FL; a niece, Meredith Koonts of FL; two nephews, Edward Hornbeck of FL. and Roy Hornbeck, Jr. of CT.
Family will receive their friends on Saturday, March 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. Cremation will follow
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's name to Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
