Obituary of Aleksandra I. Aftanas

Aleksandra I. Aftanas Aleksandra I. Aftanas of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 82. Daughter of the late Jan and Janina Michaluk Mojsej, she was born on May 20, 1925 in Poland. She was married to Arseniusz Chomicki, who passed on December 6, 1990. She later married Bohdan Aftanas; Mr. Aftanas survives in Brooklyn. Aleksandra received her degree in Poland to work as a pharmacist. She worked in Bellevue Hospital Pharmacy in New York City until her retirement in 1995. She enjoyed life; she loved to play cards and loved animals. In her younger days, her favorite pastime was dancing. Locally, she was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. In addition to her husband, Bohdan, she is survived by her daughters, Lidia Zabczynski Smith and her husband, Donald Smith of Wappingers Falls, and Marta Kuligowska of Poland; her grandchildren, Jarek Zabczynski of Wappingers Falls, and Ewa Glosna and her husband, Mieczyslaw Glosny of Poland; and one great-granddaughter, Natalia Glosna of Poland. Besides her first husband, Arseniusz, she was predeceased by her brother, Bohdan Mojsej. Family will receive their friends on Sunday, May 4, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
