Obituary of Gertrude A. Piggott

Gertrude A. Piggott Gertrude Anna-Marie Piggott of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 84. Daughter of the late August and Elfriede Hahn, she was born on July 3, 1923 in Wittenberge, Germany. In 1925, she immigrated to the United States with her mother, father and older brother; her name is inscribed on the Wall of Honor on Ellis Island. She married Robert F. Piggott on December 27, 1958 at First Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie; Mr. Piggott preceded her in death, passing on August 30, 2005. Trudy, along with her husband Bob, was the owner and operator of Piggott Farm in Poughkeepsie for many years. She also had worked for Western Printing. At one time, she was also a teacher's aide at Oak Grove School in Wappingers Falls. In her younger days, she enjoyed bowling and playing dart ball. She loved to travel with her family. In her spare time, Trudy volunteered for many years for the local polls during general elections. She was a Seventh Degree, belonging to the Oak Grove Grange in Wappingers Falls, the Dutchess County Pomona Grange, New York State Grange and the National Grange. She also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wappingers Falls. Survivors include her sons, Mark F. Piggott and his wife, Lisa of Staatsburg, and Jim Piggott and his wife, Judy of St. Augustine, FL; brothers, Harry Hahn of Pleasant Valley, and Walter Hahn of South Yarmouth, MA; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Amanda and Megan; nephews, Peter and Robert Hahn; niece, Dr. Kimberly Godfrey; two great-nephews and one great-niece. In addition to her husband, Bob, she is predeceased by her son, David Edward Piggott. Family will receive their friends on Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum Chapel; entombment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Trudy's name to the Robert Piggott Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o First Presbyterian Church, 40 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
