Earl G. Bishop
Earl G. Bishop, of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest, Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Lutheran Care Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 82.
Son of the late Herbert L. and Ethel Mae Hilliker Bishop, he was born March 13, 1926 in Poughkeepsie. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952 receiving numerous awards and medals including the Purple Heart. On June 27, 1964, he married the former Adeline Lake in Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Bishop preceded him in death on May 27, 2008.
Earl worked for Federal Bearing, Inc., in Poughkeepsie and later worked for New York State Department of Transportation in Poughkeepsie. He retired from there in 1988 after twenty-four years of service. Earl attended Arlington Reformed Church. He was a life member of Arlington Engine Co. #1. He joined in 1949 and was honored with a certificate in 1997. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 1302 in Arlington.
Survivors include a brother, Charles A. Bishop and his wife, Susan of the state of Florida, and a sister-in-law, June Bishop of Poughkeepsie; nieces and nephews, Clarence D. White and his wife, Ura of Wappingers Falls, Christine Edkins of Wayne, PA, Cathy Thielke, Canastota, NY and Andrea Fortier of Palm Coast, FL.
He is predeceased by his brother, Herbert A. Bishop; his sister, Ura H. Powell; his sisters-in-law, Mildred Bishop and Helen Bishop and his brother-in-law, Bruce Powell.
Family will receive their friends on Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Hyde Park.
