Obituary of Robert E. Smith

Robert E. Smith Robert Everett Smith of Wappingers Falls, formerly of Hughsonville, entered into rest Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 70. Son of the late Everett R. and Frances DelBoccio Smith, he was born on July 16, 1938 in Poughkeepsie. Bob was a 1957 graduate of Wappingers Central High School. While there, he was very involved in sports. His love of sports carried throughout his life; he loved baseball and was very active in local softball and basketball leagues. Bob was a daily attendee of the River Valley Adult Day Program. He was also a life member of the Hughsonville Fire Company. Survivors include his brother, Thomas J. Smith and his wife, Sandra of Port St. Lucie, FL; his sister, Nancy J. Lucas of Wappingers Falls; nephews, Michael Smith and his wife, Diana of Hyde Park, and John Lucas and his wife, Kristin of North Port; grand-nieces and nephews, Lindsey Smith, and Connor, Katelyn and Kyle Lucas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Family will receive their friends on Saturday, August 30, 2008 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 11 a.m. at the funeral home; Rev. Gail Burger will officiate. Interment will take place in the family plot at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to the Hughsonville Presbyterian Church, PO Box 516, Hughsonville, NY 12537.
