Obituary of Carmela Grosso

Carmela "Millie" Grosso Carmela "Millie" Grosso of the Village of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 93. Daughter of the late John and Dora Santarsiero Sabia, she was born on August 27, 1915 in New York City. She married the love of her life, Vincent Grosso on June 5, 1938 at Mount Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie; Mr. Grosso preceded her in death, passing in 1988. Mrs. Grosso had many jobs in her long life; she worked as a dress designer in New York City, a seamstress for Dutchess Frocks in Wappingers Falls, and a cafeteria worker for IBM in Poughkeepsie. She was a member of the Town of Wappinger Senior Citizens. Mrs. Grosso was also a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia DeGenova and her husband, Raymond of Poughkeepsie; her brother, James Sabia and his wife, Lena of Poughkeepsie; sisters, Marie D'Antoni and her husband, Louis, and Rose Sabia, all of Wappingers Falls; three grandchildren, Lisa Roys and her husband, Kevin of Poughkeepsie, Susan Morano and her husband, David of Wappingers Falls, and Christopher DeGenova of Clermont, FL; great-grandchildren, Kristen, Kyle, Samantha and Timothy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Vincent, she was predeceased by her son, Joseph Grosso, and her brothers, Anthony and Daniel Sabia. The family would like to extend their thanks to Cindy, Mary Jo and staff at the Lutheran Care Center for their loving care and compassion. Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, October 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Carmela's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
