Obituary of Robert D. English

Robert D. English, Sr. Robert D. English, Sr. of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Sunday November 9, 2008 at Hyde Park Nursing Home. He was 82. He was born February 9, 1926 in Schenectady, NY the son of the late Robert J. English and Mildred Weld. On April 26, 1947 he married Charlotte J. Boyd at Immaculate Conception Church in Schenectady, NY. Mrs. English predeceased him on February 3, 2000. Robert proudly served his country in the 89th Div., 353rd Infantry of theUS Army. His unit was the first to discover Nazi Concentration Camps He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his service. He was a life member of Hughsonville Fire Co., a Deacon at Hughsonville Presbyterian Church, member of the German Club in Poughkeepsie, the Wappingers Seniors and a former member of the Poughkeepsie Elks. Survivors include his son Robert D. English II and his wife Annmarie of Wappingers Falls, a sister Betty Peck of Rotterdam, NY, three grandchildren Melissa English of Poughkeepsie, Robert English III and James English of Wappingers Falls, a great grandson Robert English IV, a niece Linda Peck and a nephew Ricky Peck. Family will receive their friends on Tuesday November 11, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. The Hughsonville Fire Co. will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. during the calling hours. An additional calling hour will be held at Bond Funeral Home,Inc., 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY 12306 on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Fisher Cemetery, Rotterdam, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roberts Name to Hughsonville Fire Co., P.O.
