Obituary of Victor Neil Owen

Victor Neil Owen Victor Neil Owen of Wappingers Falls a beloved husband, father and grandfather died November 14, 2008 at home after a lengthy battle with colon cancer. He was born February 16, 1942, son of the late Leonard Wayne and Marion E. Owen. He attended schools in Wappingers Falls. He married his high school sweetheart Jacquelyn Ammelounx and had five children. Vic began work at IBM Poughkeepsie as a machinist and then went on to work as a facilities maintenance engineer for thirty years. He was honored several times for his cost effective ideas. He worked another eight years for the US Postal Service Westchester Distribution Center as a facilities maintenance engineer where he met a great team of coworkers who became his good friends. He also enjoyed running his auto repair and towing business, Vic's Service. He was known as a reliable, hard worker with a positive attitude. Friends enjoyed his stories, laughter and company. He was a member of the Marbletown Sportsman Club and the Southern Dutchess & Putnam Sportsman Association. He liked fishing and watching sports, and was interested in military history, planes, machines and tractors. Anytime he traveled he visited transportation museums. His was a long and courageous battle that began in 2001. He contributed to the research and understanding of the disease by undergoing experimental treatments at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He is survived by his wife Jackie, son Jerry and his wife Valerie of Wappingers Falls; daughters Angie Dehghanian and her husband Jamshid of Manassas, VI, Nancy Roberts and her husband Joe of Brewer, ME and Christine Owen and Will McCabe of Warren, CT. He was a loving grandfather of his six grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his sisters Eleanor Seeland and her husband Albert of Modena, NY and Phyllis Thorsdale of Marshfield, MO; his brother-in-law Frank Ammelounx and his wife Lynn of DeBary, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered fondly by his special friends John and Cindy Buckley of Wappingers Falls. He was predeceased by his son Lawrence Neil Owen and his brother Leonard Owen, Jr. The family expresses their deep appreciation to those people who called or came to visit Vic during his illness. Family will receive their friends on Monday November 17, 2008 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. followed by a time of fellowship at United Methodist Church of Wappingers Falls, 9 S. Mesier Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Victor's name to Grinnell Library, 2642 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
