Obituary of Margaret Hayes

Margaret Hayes Margaret Hayes, 98, a resident of Wappingers Falls and Poughkeepsie since 1993 and formerly of Brooklyn, entered into rest Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Pines at Poughkeepsie. Daughter of the late John and Marie Harvey Hillen, she was born June 27, 1910 in Brooklyn. She married Edward J. Hayes on February 11, 1934 in Brooklyn. Mr. Hayes preceded her in death in 1973. Prior to her retirement in 1974, she worked as a Switchboard Operator for McMullen and Company in New York City for forty years. She was a parishioner of St. Anselm's Parish in Brooklyn before moving to the area. She was a member of the Columbiettes of the Knights of Columbus, Dongan Council in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and a member of the Fort Hamilton Senior Citizens Group. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn A. Murphy and her husband, Bill of The Villages, Florida; her sister, Ruth Forster of Staten Island; her grandsons, Kevin W. Murphy and his wife, Sharon of Cary, North Carolina and Christopher G. Murphy and his wife, Christine of Cary, North Carolina; her granddaughter-in-law, Sandra Murphy of Poughkeepsie; her five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kara, Sean, Brandon and Trevor and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased her grandson, Keith J. Murphy and two brothers and two sisters. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Friday, March 27 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.
