Richard V. Lowry

Richard V. Lowry, a resident of the Town of Wappinger, entered into rest, Friday, September 18, 2009 at his home. He was 73.

Son of the late Robert and Elizabeth VanDenbergh Lowry, he was born September 29, 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. In 1964, he married the former Diana Smith. Mrs. Lowry survives at home in Wappingers Falls.

Prior to his retirement in 1992, Dick worked for IBM as a Mechanical Engineer for twenty-seven years. In his spare time he enjoyed skiing, radio controlled model airplanes and was an avid hunter. Dick was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Poughkeepsie as well as the Mid Hudson Radio Controlled Airplane Club, the Esopus Rod and Gun Club and the Greenhaven Rod and Gun Club.

In addition to his wife, Diana, he is survived by his daughters, Gina Stevens and her husband, Jeffrey of Houston, Texas and Stephanie Robinson of Akron, New York; his son-in-law, Mark Robinson; his brother, Robert Reed Lowry and his wife, Linda of Sudbury, Massachusetts; his nine grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, Anwar, Scott and Nicholas Stevens and Rachel, Andrew, Suzanna and Jacob Robinson; and his two nephews, Robert and Eric. He was predeceased by his sister, Louise Lowry.

Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 204 Spackenkill Road, Poughkeepsie. A service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Norwich, New York.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dick's name to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Road, Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
