Obituary of Elizabeth M. Smeriglio

Elizabeth M. Smeriglio Elizabeth M. Smeriglio, a resident of the Town of Wappinger, entered into rest Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. She was 76. Daughter of the late Charles and Felicia Salvatore Sabato, she was born June 29, 1933 in Peekskill. She married Warren F. Smeriglio on February 7, 1953 in St. Andrew's Church, Beacon. Mr. Smeriglio survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Betty was a Nurse and worked as a physician's assistant for several physicians in the area. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Fishkill. In her younger years, she was a competitive roller skater. In addition to her husband of fifty-six years, she is survived by her daughter, Linda M. Pendleton of Norfolk, Virginia, Vanessa Jackson of Wappingers Falls, who was like a daughter; her grandson, William R. Pendleton of Augusta, Georgia; two nephews, Peter and Stephen Sabato and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Charles Sabato and her sister, Genevieve Sabato. Family will receive their friends on Friday, October 23, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 24 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Fishkill Rural Community Mausoleum, Route 9, Fishkill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty's name to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Road, Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 as she was a sixty year cancer survivor.
