Obituary of Kenneth F. Tomlins

Kenneth F. Tomlins, Jr. Kenneth F. Tomlins, Jr., a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at his home. He was 80. Son of the late Kenneth F., Sr. and Frieda Just Tomlins, he was born November 15, 1928 in Poughkeepsie. He married his high school sweetheart, Bertha A. Cote on September 9, 1950. Mrs. Tomlins preceded him in death on November 29, 2004. In 1987 he retired from IBM after forty years of service. He held several management positions and received several awards. After his retirement he spent the next eighteen summers with his beloved wife at their summer home in New Hampshire. Kenneth was a former member of the Overlook Rod and Gun Club and a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was also a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. He leaves his two children, Kenneth F. Tomlins, III and his wife, Joanne M. and Leslie T. Stolarski and her husband, Robert G.; his grandchildren, Nicole M. Tomlins and her fiance Raymond Valentin, Kenneth J. Tomlins, Hendryk J. Stolarski and Chandler Cote Stolarski; his brothers and sister, Richard Tomlins and his wife, Marie, Ronald Tomlins and his wife, Barbara and Gail Kyzer and her husband, Doug; his brother-in-law, Edward McGrath and several nieces and nephews. His four grandchildren were his pride and joy as well as their "Mimi's" pride and joy. Together they enjoyed spending time at their lake home in New Hampshire. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Shirley McGrath. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Friday, October 23 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue, Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests you make a donation in Kenneth's name to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank everyone at Vassar Brothers Medical Center - baby sitters, techs, nurses and doctors for all their wonderful care and support. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Dr. Vincent Koh for all the wonderful care, support, understanding and courage he gave us though this long and difficult time.
