Obituary of Priscilla H. Smith

Priscilla H. Smith Priscilla Hewey Smith, age 86, a resident of Dutchess County since 1972, died peacefully at home November 24, 2009. Born in Worcester, MA, February 27, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Urias G. and Lena Lantz Hewey. She graduated from South High School in 1941 and Framingham State College, MA in 1945 with a BS in Education majoring in Nutrition. She became a member of the American Dietetic Assoc. on completion of a Dietetic Internship at the Boston Dispensary Food Clinic of the New England Medical Center, in 1946. Priscilla was employed as a Nutrition Advisor in the Medical Department at the Eastman Kodak Company, in Rochester, NY from 1946 - 1959. During this time, she was an active member of the Rochester Dietetic Assoc., serving a term as President. She was also active in community and church projects working with all age groups. Priscilla also loved to travel, fulfilling a childhood dream in 1950, with travel by ship to a tour of Europe. On May 16, 1959, she married Sidney Emerson Smith, in Rochester, NY. After her husband's retirement, they spent a lot of their time in an RV touring much of the U.S. and Canada. She is survived by her husband Emerson, a son, Marshall E. Smith and his wife Brenda, of Poughkeepsie, 5 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren of Newburgh, a daughter, Susan and her husband James McGill, and grandsons, Sean and Brian McGill of Hyde Park, step-daughter, Karen Coyote, of Eugene, OR, step-grandaughter Heidi Rittershausen of San Francisco, CA, step-daughter Marcia and her husband Donald Hill of Kingston, WA, a brother, Robert W. Hewey and his wife Phyllis of Northampton, MA, two nieces, a nephew and several cousins. A Memorial Service officiated by Rev. William Dalrymple, will be held at Community Baptist Church, December 5th at 1:00 pm with a time of visitation following the service. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester, MA, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 226 All Angels Hill Rd., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 or Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
