Obituary of Violet I. Hayes

Violet I. "Peggy" Hayes Violet I. "Peggy" Hayes, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest, Saturday, January 9, 2010 at her home. She was 86. Daughter of the late Hiram and Violet George Plaisted, she was born August 24, 1923 in Syracuse. On July 1, 1950, she married Ronald J. Hayes in Syracuse. Mr. Hayes preceded her in death July 17, 2004. Peggy was a Registered Nurse. Prior to her retirement, she worked at the local hospitals, Wappingers Central and Spackenkill School Districts and the Hyde Park Nursing Home. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wappingers Falls. She was also involved with Coterie and P.E.O., women's social organizations. Peggy was an avid bridge player and also enjoyed swimming and camping throughout her life. Most importantly, she was a loving wife and mother. Survivors include her children, Stephen Hayes, David Hayes and Bonnie Hayes; her four grandchildren, David S. and Amber Nicole Hayes and Christopher and Michael Thompson; as well as her beloved West Highland Terrier, Snow. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Ronald Scott Hayes and daughter, Cherie Lynn Hayes-Thompson. Family will receive their friends on Friday, January 15, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 16 at First Presbyterian Church, 2568 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls. Memorial donations in Peggy's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Road, Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
