Obituary of Robert D. Smith

Robert D. Smith Robert D. Smith, a resident of the Town of Wappinger, entered into rest Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 75. Son of the late Doyle and Estelle Marsh Smith, he was born December 29, 1934 in Marianna, Arkansas. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force. On February 19, 1966 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in the Bronx he married the former Kathleen M. Blanchard. Mrs. Smith survives at home. Prior to his retirement in 2002 he was a Welder and Mechanic for Castle Petroleum in the Bronx. Robert enjoyed taking care of his yard and garden. He also enjoyed sports. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Cathyann "Kitty" Jaycox of Wappingers Falls, Robert Smith, Jr. and his wife, Ann of Key Largo, Florida and Christopher Smith and his fianc�e, Kimberly Moore of Eutis, Florida; his six grandchildren, Paul Robert, Michael, Alishia, Taylor, Andrew and Addison; his brother, Donald; his sisters, Joan, Jean and Beatrice; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Shirley. Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, January 20 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Road, Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
