DEAR KALAKA FAMILY:
MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY. I GOT TO KNOW ARTIE WHILE
I WAS A SCORER FOR BASKETBALL. I'LL NEVER FORGET
WHEN HE THREW A PLAYER OUT OF THE GAME WHO REALLY
DESERVED IT. MY FATHER, AL, HAD PAINTED ARTIE'S
HOUSE. THEY BECAME FRIENDLY. ARTIE WOULD ALWAYS
GET NEEDED MEDICINES AT A DISCOUNTED RATE FOR OUR
FAMILY, WHICH WAS MUCH APPRECIATED. WHAT A DISTINGUISHE3D CAREER. JUST REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES. MY PRAYERS & THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU.

Grandpa Kalaka and Sophie always had a smile and a hug for Kyle and Emily before leaving nursery school, and a pleasant greeting for us, their teachers. I am sure that Mr. Kalaka's passing leaves a void, but wonderful memories of the times spent with him and Sophie can't help but fill that space. I would have come in person to express my sympathy at the funeral home, but am quite ill with a cold, which I don't wish to share. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Dear Kalaka family;
I had the privilege of working alongside Artie in 1988-90 when we were launching Physician's Lifestyle magazine. He was a class guy, full of funny stories, and a great pleasure to work with. I also learned a thing or two about ad sales from him in that brief time. My sincerest condolences go out to you, and may he rest in peace.

Dear Kalaka Family, We are in Florida for a few weeks and were so saddened to hear of Artie's passing. I was fortunate to be his partner in many college/hs basketball games over the years, and his teaching, guidance, humor and wonderful mind will always be in my heart. He always spoke about his Sophie, and his wonderful children during our many drives to and from games. He was a man's man, and a wonderful father. I will be sending you some correspondence from the basketball organization. Everyone in that group knew what an asset we had amongst us. Nancy and I wish you strength and good health during this sad time. May Arthur's and Sophie's wonderful memories always sustain you.

Dear Children,
We are now in Florida and received a call from our son in Pine Plains telling us about your Dad. What a shock!!!Artie and I worked many college games together, and when I made a bad call, I would run right over to him for protection.What a husband, father, and secure man he was.He was a proud person, esp. for his children. I'm sure all of you will always have extremely fond memories of your dad as I'm sure you were so proud of having parents like you had. Our prayers arfe with all of you.

Dear Art and Family, Those who've died are not truly "dead"; they are our beloved in Heaven and will forever be part of our world without end. I was blessed to have known your father, as well as Bill and Jo-Ann. You have always been a close friend to us and your good will, humor and loving heart is a testament of the love and care that Arthur and Sophie bestowed to the Kalaka family. The world has lost a great man, yet he has left us with a family that will continue to provide love to all. Please accept our sincere condolences in the loss of your father.
