Obituary of Jean Szymczak Bennett

Jean Bennett Jean Bennett of York, South Carolina and originally of Maspeth, Queens, entered into rest Sunday, February 28, 2010 at White Oak Manor, York, SC. She was 89. Daughter of the late Peter and Margaret Lewandowski Szymczak, she was born on February 12, 1921 in Queens, New York. She married the love of her life, William Bennett, on November 4, 1942 at Holy Cross Church in Maspeth, Queens; Mr. Bennett preceded his wife in death, passing on January 22, 1999. Mrs. Bennett had a strong love for family; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Ness and her husband, John of Lake Wylie, SC; son-in-law, Edward Greevy of Wappingers Falls; grandchildren, Jennifer Bixby, Connie Cox and her husband, Denver, Donna Cramer and her husband, Geoff, Robert Church and his wife, Donna, Michele Manzione, Thomas Greevy, Catherine Monteiro and her husband, Bob, Lisa Beth Thiessen and her husband, Michael, and John Ness, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Adam, Corey, Connor, Jonathan, Chelsea, Felicia, Joshua, Spencer, Zachary, Jacob, Matthew, Sophia, Zachary, Jackson, Nicholas and Andrew; and several nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her daughter, Christina Greevy on August 27, 2006 and her son, William Bennett, Jr. in 1946. Family will receive their friends on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY, 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made in Jean's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
