Obituary of Vidal O. Mckenzie

Vidal O. "Dusty" McKenzie Vidal O. "Dusty" McKenzie, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, New York entered into rest Monday, March 15, 2010 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie. He was 84. Son of the late Vincent McKenzie and Vinnet Francis, he was born December 29, 1925 in Jamaica. On March 22, 1986 he married the former Cora L. Roundtree in Poughkeepsie. Mrs. McKenzie survives at home in Poughkeepsie. Prior to his retirement, Dusty was a foreman for Hudson River Fruit Distributors in Milton, New York. He enjoyed working outside in his yard. He followed sports, especially boxing, football and wrestling. Dusty was interested in politics and enjoyed traveling and dancing. Most importantly, he loved the Lord. In addition to his wife, Cora McKenzie, he is survived by his sons, Stephen Boone of Florida and Eric Boone and his wife, Joyce of Massachusetts; his daughters, Alicia Walker and her husband, William of Poughkeepsie, Wanda McKenzie-Jenkins of Brandon, Florida, Antoinette McKenzie of Poughkeepsie, Beverly Haynes and her husband, John of England and Joan Payne of England; his brothers, Leon Willis of England, Owen McKenzie and his wife, Norma of England and Donald McKenzie and his wife, Brenda of Brooklyn, New York; his sisters, Henrietta Fletcher of Florida, Pearl Stuart of Jamaica, Myrtle Prendergest of Florida, Deloris Lewis and her husband, Lincoln of Queens, New York, Rose Hilton of Atlanta, Georgia, Hilda Brown and her husband, Michael of Canada and Sheila Henriques of Connecticut; a special aunt and uncle, Jennette and Howard Wells; sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Shanna Walker; his brothers, Hemmerde McKenzie and Victor Willis and his sister, Florence Campbell. Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls and again on Monday, March 22 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bethel Church of God in Christ, 91 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at Bethel Church of God in Christ with Pastor Dwight Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
