Obituary of Henry Kowalsky
Henry "Woo" Kowalsky
Henry "Woo" Kowalsky, a resident of Wappingers Falls since 1952, passed to be with the Lord on April 29, 2010.
Born in North Bellmore, Long Island, NY on November 24, 1924. He was the youngest of two children by Joseph Kowalsky and Sophie Debska Kowalsky. He was predeceased by his brother, Frederick "Whitey" Kowalsky of Clarksville, Georgia on July 4, 1998.
In his youth, Hank spent a great deal of time around the local riding academies on Long Island. He loved horses and sports and, yes, was a Yankees fan through and through. He was proud to support his children in their endeavors.
A World War II Navy Veteran, Hank last served aboard the USS Sargent Bay.
Everyone who knew or met Hank remember his "quick wit." He retired from NYNEX after 38 years. And yes to those who knew him, that year was very important to him. During his retirement years he enjoyed the simple things in life - spending time with his beloved dog, Lucy; wood carving; having the leisure to be with his friends and to watch Animal Planet on television.
Hank had many great memories of his years with the Hempstead Long Island Volunteer Fire Company.
On May 1, 1949, Hank married Bernice Parman of Lynbrook, Long Island. Their marriage was blessed with the arrival of four sons.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years and their children: Gary Kowalsky and wife, Sue of Red Hook and their children, Jonathan, Leighann, Christy and Trevor; Timothy "Rook" Kowalsky and wife, Linda of Wappingers Falls and their children, Justin and Garrett; Ronald Kowalsky and wife, Dareline of Atlanta, Georgia and their children, Jacqueline Menz and her daughter, Amelia and Victoria; and Terry Kowalsky and wife, Cathy of New Hamburg and their children, Hannah and Joshua. He had a great love for all his family including many nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by all.
