Obituary of Barbara E. Hansen

Barbara E. Hansen Barbara E. Hansen of Wappingers Falls entered into rest peacefully at home, surrounded by her children on Monday, August 9, 2010. She was 77. Daughter of the late Virgil and Evelyn Haynor Knight, she was born on July 21, 1933 in Poughkeepsie. She married the love of her life, Henry S. Hansen, Jr. on June 4, 1955 in Wappingers Falls. Mr. Hansen preceded his wife in death, passing on November 11, 1979. Mrs. Hansen worked for many years as a medical receptionist for Dr. Schneider in Wappingers Falls. She was a lifelong member of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls, singing in their choir for 60 years. There, she was also a part of the Pastoral Care Committee. Barbara was instrumental in the establishment of the Meals on Wheels program in Wappingers Falls. She enjoyed her time with her family, most of all the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Susan Theiss and her husband, Jeff, Daniel Hansen and his wife, Lori, Nancy Durr and her husband, Ken, and Deborah Bois and her husband, Mark; a brother, Virgil Knight; a sister, Judy Buechele; grandchildren, Sarah, Ben, Mark, Rebecca, Kristen, Zachariah, Kenny, Ali and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Shawn Paul; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY, 12590. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 12 at Zion Episcopal Church, Satterlee Place in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
