Obituary of Gwen W. Smith

Gwen W. Smith Gwen W. Smith of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie. She was 86. Daughter of the late Howard and Sadie Brinkerhoff Whitford, she was born on August 18, 1923 in Westtown, New York. She married the love of her life, Timothy W. Smith on November 28, 1957 in Middletown; Mr. Smith survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wappingers Falls. She spent her years making a warm and loving home for her husband and two children. She adored her family and the time she spent with her grandchildren. Gwen's family would like to especially thank the staff at The Pines at Poughkeepsie, 3rd Floor for their constant care and compassion during the years that Gwen spent there. They would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice, who comforted Gwen in her final days. In addition to her husband, Timothy, she is survived by her daughters, Sharon Smith, and Lynn McKenna and her husband, Dennis, all of Poughkeepsie; grandchildren, Mitchell, Timothy and Kevin McKenna; one niece; and one nephew. Family will receive there friends on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 20th at 10 a.m.; Rev. Lindsey Borden will preside. Burial will be private to the family.
