Obituary of Ambrose F. Salansky

Ambrose "Andy" Salansky Ambrose "Andy" Salansky of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Monday, November 1, 2010 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. He was 73. Son of the late Ambrose and Mary Giniewski Salansky, he was born on June 2, 1937 in Shavertown, Pennsylvania. He married the love if his life, Veronica Schrama on November 26, 1960 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Lake Silkworth, PA; Mrs. Salansky survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Andy graduated from Lake Lehman High School, PA, in 1953. He went on to graduate from the University of Notre Dame in 1957, magna cum laude, with a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering. He took a job with Carrier in Syracuse for several years, before taking a position as mechanical engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie; he retired from IBM in 2000. Andy stayed active in retirement by taking several classes at the Culinary Institute of America. In his spare time, he loved carpentry and woodworking, especially furniture. He was a big supporter of Our Lady of Lourdes girl's basketball, always attending as many games as he could. He loved to read and to work on the New York Times crossword puzzle. Andy was also a former member of Dutchess County Golf & Country Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Jodi Schuh and her husband, Brian of Apex, NC; mother-in-law, Margaret Schrama of Ceasetown, PA; brother, Victor Salansky and his wife, Noreen of Lancaster, PA; sister, Kathy Fritzges and her husband, James of Dallas, PA; grandchildren, Kimberly, Allison and Connor Schuh; and nephew, Mark Salansky. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff from Hospice, Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Kaplan Family Hospice for their care and compassion throughout Andy's last days; they went above and beyond, and their support was greatly appreciated. Special thanks to Art and Yolanda Henry who supported Andy in sickness and in health, and never failed to be by his side, right to the end. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.A memorial service will be held following visitation at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Andy's cremains will be interred at a later date in a niche at his beloved Notre Dame.
