Obituary of Edna Alice Thairgen

Edna Alice Thairgen Edna Alice Thairgen, 101, resident of Wappingers Falls, NY, and formerly of Melbourne, FL, and Alexandria, LA, died November 9, 2010 at the New York State Veterans Home at Montrose which had been her home since May 2010. Born June 20, 1909 in Bellmore, NY, she was the daughter of Jesse Allen Vooris and Bessie Mary Jane Kilpatrick Vooris. On March 12, 1943, in Mississippi, she married Richard William Thairgen. Ret. Lt. Thairgen predeceased her in January 1972. She was also predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth "Marian" Weston and by her brother Robert Vooris. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. For years, she was an active member of the United Methodist Churches in both Melbourne and Wappingers Falls. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and doing crafts and made many beautiful clothes, sweaters, blankets, hats, mittens, scarves, and Christmas ornaments for family, friends, and people she didn't even know. Many of her last nine years were spent living at The Manor at Woodside in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she made many dear friends, volunteered countless hours preparing mailings, packets, etc. for local charitable organizations, and knitted blankets and hats for premature babies in local hospitals. She adored spending time with children and family. She loved to travel and visited many places around the world both within and outside the military. She had a wonderful sense of humor that brought a smile to the faces of all who she encountered. She is survived by her daughter, Betsy Ellen Thairgen and Ron Polson of Colorado Springs, CO and Fort Walton Beach, FL, her grandsons Captain Christopher Robinson and his wife, Louann, of Andrews AFB, MD and Jeremy Robinson and his wife, Karen, of Jacksonville, FL, her granddaughter, Alyson Yarema and her husband, Matthew, of Montgomery, AL, and her great grandchildren, Mitchell, Emily, and Jack Robinson and Isabela and Adrian Robinson. She is also survived by her niece, Barbara Russell of Wappingers Falls, her grand nieces Amy Russell, Beth Phillips and her husband, Nicholas, and Cori Meyer and her husband, Shawn, her great grand nephews and nieces, Evan and Hailey Meyer and Abigail and Eli Phillips, and many loving cousins. Edna's family wishes to thank the staff at the New York State Veterans Home at Montrose who provided friendship and loving care over the past six months. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 12, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Wappingers Falls. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Brevard Memorial Park in Cocoa, FL.
