Obituary of Robert A. Witte

Robert A. Witte Robert A. Witte, 88, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his family. Son of the late Anthony S. and Kathryn Witte, he was born in Syracuse, New York in 1922. He proudly served in the Army Air Cop during World War II. Robert went on to graduate from Syracuse University School of Engineering with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. On June 14, 1947, he married the former Kathleen Callahan. Mrs. Witte survives at home in Poughkeepsie. Prior to his retirement in 1991, Robert was a Product Engineer with Chemprene in Beacon. He was an avid skier, enjoyed outdoor activities and was a member of All Sport in Fishkill. He shared his unique sense of humor and creative flair in writing, art and music with family and friends. He was an active parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. Most importantly, Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Kathleen C. Witte, he is survived by his son, Robert S. Witte and his wife, Joan of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, daughters, Melissa A. Coleman and her husband, Bill of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and Patricia S. Homan and her husband, Tom of Freemont, Ohio; his sister, Jeanne O'Leary of Winter Haven, Florida; his six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 27 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 301 Manchester Road, Suite 105, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
