Obituary of Vincent R. Valentino

Vincent R. Valentino Vincent R. Valentino, a resident of the Town of Wappinger, entered into rest Monday, January 17, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 85. Son of the late Joseph and Vincenzina DeMare Valentino, he was born October 26, 1925 in Wappingers Falls. Vincent served his country in the Merchant Marines and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married the former Katheryn M. Bisulk on July 16, 1949 at St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Valentino survives at home. Prior to his retirement in July of 1991, he was a salesman with National Beer Distributors in Poughkeepsie. Vincent was a charter member of the Wappinger Elks Lodge #2609 where he was very involved. He was a past trustee from 1984 to 1989 and 1995 to 1996; past chair of the house committee where he enjoyed arranging weddings and dinner functions and also served as a chef. He was also past Elk of the Year in 1982 to 1983. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council #445 in Beacon. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. Vincent was also a dedicated family man and treasured spending time with his family. He was also a bird watcher and enjoyed gardening. In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, he is survived by his children, Vincent J. Valentino of Wappingers Falls, Deborah Brengel and her husband, Robert of Pleasant Valley and Michael Valentino and his wife, Brenda of Wappingers Falls; his sisters, Rose Fusaro of Springfield, Massachusetts and Loretta Hackett of Concord, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Jessica Valentino, Kim Centorani, Deana Kortlang, Kara Bucher and Michael Valentino, Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Alexis Centorani, P.J. Kortlang and Steven and Joseph Thomas as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Carmine Valentino, Anna Fusaro, Dominic Valentino, Eleanor Gotchius, Josephine Riley, Albert Valentino and Angelina Giamportone. Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY, 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 21 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Road, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601; the American Heart Association, 229 Manchester Road, Suite 105, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 or St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
