Obituary of Barbara L. Whalen

Barbara L. Whalen, a resident of Hopewell Junction, entered into rest Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 63. Daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Minardi Lombardi, she was born February 23, 1951 in Sleepy Hollow, New York. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an administrative assistant at Liberty Mutual in Poughkeepsie. Barbara truly treasured time spent with family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and a devoted sister and aunt. She is survived by her sons, Kevin Whalen and his wife, Kelly of Waxhaw, North Carolina, James Whalen of LaGrange, and Brian Whalen of Hopewell Junction; her brothers, Lou Lombardi and his fiancée, Sally Huffman of Middletown, Michael Lombardi and his wife, Nancy of North Carolina, and David Lombardi and his wife, Denise of Wappingers Falls; her sister-in-law, Santa Coupe; her grandchildren, Dylan, Jack, Noah and Luke; her nieces and nephews, Craig, Ashley, Michele, Maria, Zachary, Debbie, Janet, and Michele; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Robert "Bobby" Whalen on May 13, 2006. Family will receive friends on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Barbara's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
