Obituary of John J. Milkovich

John J. Milkovich John J. Milkovich of Wappingers Falls, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, February 11, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer, with his wife by his side. He was 78. Born on May 14, 1932 to the late Stephen and Mildred Milkovich, he was the first of five children. He married his soul mate and the love of his life, Mildred Whitman on September 30, 1956 at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring. John was a 1951 graduate of Haldane High School in Cold Spring. He retired from IBM East Fishkill in 1993 as a manager. As a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, he volunteered his time with their Food Pantry. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the IBM Quarter Century Club and RSVP. He was a driver for the Meals on Wheels and Friends for Seniors. John was treasurer for the Wappingers Historical Society for 10 years. Woodworking was a personal hobby he enjoyed; his woodworking skills gave many people wonderful items they will treasure forever. John was also an avid fan of Notre Dame Football, the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. John Milkovich was a devoted husband and a great family man. He was a believer and was called to be "salt and light". To those that knew him, he fulfilled his call. He will be missed. Survivors include his wife, Mildred at home in Wappingers Falls; his beloved sons, James and his wife, Janet of Chicago, IL, Brian and his companion, Cheryl of Schertrz, TX, and Robert and his wife, Diane of New Paltz; grandchildren, Brett, Jonathan, Jenny, Alexxis and Christine; great-grandchildren, Corey and Madison; brothers, Frank and his wife, Jean of Cold Spring, and Stephen "Chip" and his wife, Patricia of Glenham; sister, Stephanie Procker and her husband, Len of San Jose, CA; sister-in-law, Johanne Milkovich of Beacon; aunt, Kathyrn Thorpe and her husband, Louis of Cold Spring; uncle, John Baricevic and his wife, Teresa of Cold Spring; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Milkovich in 2003. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 14, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's School, 2 Convent Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 or one of John's many causes.
