Obituary of Francis M. Sherow

Francis M. "Sonny" Sherow, Jr. Francis M. "Sonny" Sherow, Jr., a resident of the Town of Wappinger, entered into rest Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 82. Son of the late Francis M. Sherow, Sr. and Etta Morrison Sherow, he was born December 25, 1928 in Wappingers Falls. He attended Wappingers Schools and graduated from Wappingers Central High School in 1948. Sonny proudly served his country from March of 1951 to March of 1953 in Germany where he was a sergeant in the tank commands. Sonny worked in Urey's Hardware Store before retiring after thirty-six years. He also had a side business, Sonny's Screen and Window Repair. He was a twenty-five year volunteer and member of the W.T. Garner Engine Co., Wappingers Falls. He married the former Vivian Lester on June 21, 1975 in Zion Episcopal Church, Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Sherow survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children; daughters, Deborah Nissen and her husband, Richard of Las Vegas, Nevada, Connie Lekastas of Poughkeepsie, Teri Lynn Enson and her husband, Michael of Poughkeepsie, Dawn Kain and her husband, Richard of Clintondale; sons, Frank Sherow of Hyde Park and Donald Sherow of Highland and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Sherow and sister, Ada Secchia. Family will receive their friends on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 26 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring in New Hackensack Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
