Obituary of Harry David Bowen
Harry David Bowen
Harry David Bowen, a resident of the Town of LaGrange, entered into rest Friday, May 6, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 92.
Son of the late Harry L. and Maude Batchelder Bowen, he was born December 10, 1918 in Somerville, Massachusetts. David graduated from Somerville High School in 1936 and went on to attend and graduate from Northeastern University in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. While in high school, he made lifelong friends in Sunday School and fondly referred to their group as the EDS.
On November 20, 1943, he married the former Beverly Banks. Mrs. Bowen survives at home in LaGrange.
David began his career with IBM in 1941 and retired from IBM in Poughkeepsie as a senior engineer in 1975. David was a life member of the IEEE. He was a member of New Hackensack Reformed Church. Music was a big part of David's life, in high school and college he played the trumpet and was a charter member of the Hammond Organ Society. He enjoyed traveling with his wife including trips to Europe and trips to Florida where he collected numerous sea shells. David also enjoyed fishing especially in the ocean at Rockport, Massachusetts and at Otsego Lake in Cooperstown. David also spent time in his garden. He was an avid golfer and was proud of his hole in one. Most importantly, David will be remembered as a devoted husband and as a good guy with a dry sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Beverly B. Bowen, at home in LaGrange; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Bowen of Florida and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his two brothers.
