Obituary of Maurice Caton

Maurice Caton Maurice Caton, a resident of Hopewell Junction, entered into rest Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Wingate at Beacon. He was 90. Son of the late Robert Caton and Lobelia Hall, he was born February 1, 1921 in Texarkana, Texas. He was proud of his father's full blood Choctaw Indian heritage. He married the former Maetrude Orr. After over sixty years of marriage, Mrs. Caton preceded him in death on February 27, 2008. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement, Maurice worked in the Security Department at Calvary Hospital. Maurice enjoyed his time with the East Fishkill Senior Center. He was also an avid fisherman and liked to garden. He loved sports, especially following the Mets and the Giants. He was very social and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his children, Carolyn Patterson of the Bronx, Nathan Patterson and his wife, Patricia of Long Island, Anthony Caton of Brooklyn, Cheryl Caton-Carrion and her husband, Felipe of Hopewell Junction, Michelle Harden and her husband, Roderick of Hopewell Junction, and Robert Caton and his wife, Lynne of Fishkill; his brother, Homer Wright of Manhattan; his daughters-in-law, Jacqueline Caton and Hilda Caton; his sisters-in-law, Erma Dancy and her husband, Paul of Poughkeepsie and Rosalie Mercer and her husband, Moses of Virginia; twenty-seven grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his children, Anita Gardner, Maurice Caton, Jr. and Ronald Caton, and his sister, Geraldine Rivers. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, May 23, 2011 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
