Obituary of Nancy Moore Serino

Nancy Moore Serino Nancy Moore Serino, 81, passed away at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 Nancy was born on April 22, 1930, in Peekskill, N.Y., the daughter of the late Harold and Myrtle Harer Moore of Peekskill. She attended Peekskill High School, graduating in 1948. In 1953, she married Joseph W. Serino of Peekskill. The family moved to Poughkeepsie in 1971. In Poughkeepsie she was well-known for her friendly smile, warmth and sense of humor, first behind the counter in the family business, Doe-Dee Donut on South Road, from 1971 to 1978, and then as a volunteer and later as a Guest Services Representative at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie until her retirement in 2003. She loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, and enjoyed treating her family to tropical vacations. Her love of animals was well-known, ranging from the daily feeding a vast menagerie of woodland creatures on her back porch, to contributions to animal shelters, to horse racing. She was an avid New York Yankee fan. Nancy is survived by son Michael and daughter in law Stephanie Serino of Ithaca, NY; daughter Lisa, son in law David, and granddaughters Kaela and Kelsey Korhummel of Hopewell Junction, NY; daughter Lori Jones and partner Robert Adam of Fishkill, NY, granddaughter Lyndsey Jones, her fianc� Joseph LaPolla, and great-granddaughter Isabella LaPolla of Poughkeepsie, NY; and grandson Steven Jones of Poughkeepsie, NY. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 5, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. The family wishes to thank Wingate at Dutchess/Locust Grove in Fishkill, the cardiologists of the Mid Hudson Medical Group, and the staff of the Critical Care Unit at Vassar Brothers Medical Center for their kindness and compassion through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538 or a favorite charity caring for the needs of animals.
