Obituary of Frank Leon Simone

Frank Leon Simone, III Frank Leon Simone, III, passed from this earth on February 10, 2006 after a lengthy illness. He had been an East Fishkill resident for many years, but made his home on East Hook Road, (Wiccopee) Hopewell Junction where he left on his journey to a place free of struggle and illness. Frank was born on August 7, 1933 in Peekskill, New York to Frank Leon Simone, Jr. and Lillian Marcelle Gray Simone (later, Beach). In later childhood, he had been close to his stepmother, Marguerite Goodner Simone. Frank was educated in Westchester County schools and graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose. He later attended Dutchess Community College. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Montana while in the United States and also served in Korea and Japan. Frank had been trained and specialized in aircraft mechanics and repair. In June of 2000, Frank became eligible for and received a Republic of Korea Korean War Service Medal on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the war's outbreak. After being honorably discharged, Frank went to work for Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Peekskill. During this time, he married Patricia, who survives at home in Hopewell Junction. In 1965, he was employed by Metro-North (formerly and at the time of his hire, New York Central and later Penn Central). He remained with the railroad as an electrician until his retirement in 1995. Other than his work, he was involved with several organizations as a volunteer over the years. Among these was the Fishkill Sea Cadets, Boy Scout Troop 54, and the Wiccopee Fire Co., Station #4 in the East Fishkill Fire District, where he had served in various capacities including President and most recently, Trustee. In addition, Frank was a past active member of the East Fishkill Rescue Squad and the Fire Police. He had also been a member of the Fire Investigation Team, the NRA and the Southern Dutchess and Putnam Sportsmen's Association. At various times, he was a member of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction and at the time of his death, St. Mary Mother of the Church, Fishkill. In addition to his wife, also surviving are his children, Leon Michael Simone of Beacon and Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, Eugene Christian Simone and his wife, Un-Hui Choe Simone, formerly of Korea and now of Richmond, Virginia, Frederick Thomas Simone of Hopewell Junction and Marathon, Florida, Jessie Annette Sadowsky Simone of Seaside, California, Dorothy Frances Nunes and her husband, Michael M. of Newburgh, and Frank Lawrence Simone and his wife, Christin Sakovsky Simone of LaGrange. The family had also been blessed to foster two additional sons, born to dear family friends. They were Barry R. Olah and his wife, Marie P. Iebba Olah of Wappingers Falls and Kenneth Olah of Peekskill. Grandchildren include, Barry Robert Olah, Anthony and Adrianna Simone and Michael, Frank and Matthew Nunes. Also surviving is a half-brother, Christopher Simone and his wife, Sally and their family of Garrison. There are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, special friends, neighbors, former co-workers and fellow volunteers. To all, Frank sent his love. Frank had been a patient several times at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie and on time at Wingate at St. Francis, Beacon. The family wishes to thank these staffs for their caring and compassion. According to Frank's wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Fishkill Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations on Frank's behalf may be made to the Wiccopee Fire Co., 6 West Hook Road, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533 or a charity of your choice.
