Obituary of James F. Cardus

James F. Cardus James F. Cardus, a resident of Millbrook, entered into rest Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie after a 6 year courageous, stubborn battle with prostate cancer. He was 61 Son of the late James and Jane Neary Cardus, he was born April 12, 1945 in Rockville Center, Long Island. Jim married the former Neila Denecke in Copake, New York. Jim was principal of James S. Evans Elementary School in the Wappingers Central School District. Prior to his tenure in the Wappingers School District, he was the Education Director at Grove Street Academy of the Kingston Children's Home. He started his long career of caring 1968 at Taconic Developmental Center as a psychologist and then a Special Education Teacher. He left Taconic in 1977 to become the Education Coordinator at Rehabilitation Programs Inc. in Poughkeepsie. In addition to his wife, Neila Cardus, he is survived by his son, Michael Cardus; his daughter, Alyssa Cardus; his brother Richard Cardus of East Rockaway, Long Island; his nieces, Abby Hoffman and Katie Cardus; his nephews, Richie and Johnnie Cardus along with a loving extended family of close friends. Family will receive their friends on Wednesday May 31, 2006 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 1 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls, New York.
