Obituary of Edna T. Kelley

Edna T. Kelley Edna Travis Kelley, 101, returned home to be with the Lord on September 14, 2006. She was a former resident of Poughkeepsie, Dobbs Ferry, and Hopewell Junction, NY. Ms. Kelley was born in Clove Branch (East Fishkill)on April 7, 1905. She was the daughter of Herbert M. and Ethel T. Kelley. She was preceded in death by her brother, H. Earl Kelly in 2003 and her sister, Marie Kelley Nelson in 1975. She attended Fishkill PLains Schools and traveled by train from Hopewell Junction to attend Poughkeepsie High School. She attended New Paltz Teachers College and received BS and MA degrees from Columbia Teachers College. Ms. Kelley first taught in one-room schools in East Fishkill and then went on to teach at the Dobbs Ferry Junior High School. She moved to Poughkeepsie after retiring in 1968 where she volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Bank and was active in women's groups of the Reformed Church. She was a member of the Reformed Church of Poughkeepsie and the Cascade-Vassar Chapter # 347 Order of the Eastern Star. Ms. Kelley is survived by her nephews, David E. Kelley and his wife, Mary of Cary, NC and Barry Nelson of Lewisburg, PA; great nephews, D. Scott Kelley of Cary, NC and Stephen M. Kelley of Hackensack, NJ, grandnephew, Ryan Kelley and twin grandnieces, Emma and Morghan Kelley all of Cary, NC. A memorial service will be held at the Reformed Church of Poughkeepsie on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 11 am. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Hopewell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested thaty tax deductible donations may be made to The Vassar-Warner Home, 52 South Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
