Obituary of Lloyd C. Hafner

Lloyd C. Hafner Lloyd C. Hafner, a lifelong resident of the Poughkeepsie area entered into rest on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 83. Born in Brooklyn on January 26, 1923, he was the son of the late August and Dora Eberhard Hafner. On June 8, 1944 at Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls, he married Doris M. Dingee; Mrs. Hafner survives at home. He attended Wappingers Schools graduating in 1940. A WWII veteran, he served in a ship repair unit in Okinawa. After his discharge, he returned to DeLaval Separator Company for a short time before joining IBM in the Toolmaker Apprentice Program; he retired from IBM in 1985, after 39 years of service. Lloyd was a member of Zion Episcopal Church and he served there in many capacities during his 75 year membership. An avid skier, he was very proud to have attained membership in the 80+ Skier's Club. He also enjoyed hunting, golf, boating, fishing and helping others over the years... In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Donna Petty and her husband, Jon of Holly Springs, NC, Melanie Moore of Poughkeepsie, June Guerriero and her husband, Thomas of Wappingers Falls and Linda Khadair of Duluth, GA. Also surviving are six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister Eleanor Aglietti. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, January 18, 2007 from 4 to 7 P.M. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, New York 12590. A Funeral Service will be held at Zion Episcopal Church, 12 Satterlee Place in Wappingers Falls on Friday January 19 at 11 A.M. The Rev. Horace Choate will officiate. Memorial donations on Lloyd's behalf may be made to the American Cancer Society, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
