Obituary of Friar Michael Joseph Recinelli OFM

Friar Michael Joseph Recinelli, OFM FRIAR MICHAEL JOSEPH RECINELLI, OFM, entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Albany Medical Center. He was 81. Michael Joseph (Dominic) was born on June 9, 1926 in Red Bank, New Jersey to Alessandro and Julia (Saggese) Recinelli. He was received on March 25, 1957 at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Troy, NY, making his first profession of vows on March 26, 1958. On March 26, 1961 he was admitted to solemn profession at St. Anthony Friary, Catskill, NY. Michael's culinary skills are widely known, having served generously at Serra Friary (McKeesport), Immaculate Conception Seminary (Troy), St. Anthony Friary (Catskill), Mount Alvernia Friary (Wappingers Falls), St. Christopher Friary (Boston) and in our Provincial Curia. On December 9, 2005, Michael Joseph moved to St. Anthony Friary in Catskill to enjoy his well-earned rest. His contagious smile and his many years of faithful and loyal service will always be remembered: "A perfect gentleman, well mannered, courteous and polite to all." "He is industrious and conscientious. He takes special pride in doing his work and does so with care and diligence." Survivors include his sister, Rose Peters and her husband Edwin C. Peters, Sr. of Arizona; his niece, Debbie O'Grady of Elberon, NJ; and his nephew, Edwin C. Peters, Jr. of Point Pleasant, NJ. Michael was predeceased by his sister, Marge Blakely and his brother Leopold Recinelli. His body will be received at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at St. Anthony Friary, Catskill. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9, with a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated there at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16. He will be laid to rest in the Friars' Cemetery at Mount Alvernia, Wappingers Falls, following the Funeral Mass. Arrangements are under the direction of Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E.
