Obituary of Owen Angeloni OFM

Fr. Owen Angeloni, O.F.M. Fr. Owen Angeloni, O.F.M. of St. Anthony Friary, Catskill entered into rest Monday, November 24, 2008 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson. He was 81. Son of the late Angelo and Loretta Scappa Angeloni, he was born April 29, 1927 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. He was received on August 15, 1953 and made his first profession of vows on August 16, 1954. On August 16, 1957 he was admitted to solemn profession. He was ordained a priest on June 16, 1962. Fr. Owen was an exemplary and dedicated priest, religious, a faithful follower of St. Francis of Assisi, and like St. Francis, Fr. Owen was totally in love with God, with life, with creation and with people whom he served so faithfully and unselfishly. As the superior of Mount Alvernia Retreat Center, Wappingers Falls and a member of the Retreat Staff, Fr. Owen was greatly admired for his spirit of generosity, hospitality, graciousness, compassion and kindness. He will always be remembered as a special, real, authentic, one of a kind human being, who reached out and touched countless number of people with his down to earth spirituality, his wisdom, his wit and his sense of humor. Fr. Owen's life as a priest and as a Franciscan was a remarkable, extraordinary, and inspiring life of dedication, service, loyalty and commitment to God, to his fellow priests and brothers, to his natural family, to his friends, and to all the people who had the honor and privilege of knowing him and were the recipients of his kind, humble, gentle and generous ways. The Church and the Franciscan Order has lost a faithful and valuable servant. In addition to all in the Province of the Immaculate Conception, Fr. Owen is survived by ten nieces and nephews, Elaine Angeloni, Joseph Angeloni, Carol Beebe, Terry Mullin, Patricia Vedro, Lewis Angeloni, Jr., Marguerite Nasuti, Barbara Larkin, Rose Marie Angeloni and Michael Angeloni. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Samuel, Joseph and Lewis Angeloni and his sister, Anne Sersanti. Visitation will be on Monday, December 1, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Anthony Friary, 24 Harrison Street, Catskill, NY 12414. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Tuesday, December 2 at St. Anthony Friary, Catskill. Entombment will follow in the Friar's Cemetery at Mount Alvernia, Wappingers Falls.
