Paul E. Schwerman
Paul Edward Schwerman, a resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, died unexpectedly Friday, July 23, 2010 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 51.
A lifelong area resident, he was born September 22, 1958 in Poughkeepsie to the late William and Helen Schwerman.
Paul graduated from Manhattan College in 1980 and Western New England College School of Law in 1983. In 1984 he was admitted to the New York State Bar. He had a private practice for many years. He was Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Poughkeepsie for twelve years. He was Corporation Counsel for the City of Peekskill, where he was still currently working.
Paul was an avid Jets and Mets fan. He was an accomplished woodworker and enthusiastic home beer brewer. Most importantly Paul will be remembered as a "gentle giant" to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his fianc�e, Lisa Sorrentino and her two daughters, Christine and Laura of New Paltz who became the loves of his life. Paul is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Fritz Meyer of New Paltz; his brother, Dr. Joseph Schwerman of Queensbury, New York; his sister, Arlene Schwerman of Hyde Park; his sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Gus Siko of Highland as well as his niece, Jessica and nephews, Mark, Philip and Neil.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rhinecliff.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Helen and William Schwerman Memorial Scholarship, care of the Community Foundation, 80 Washington Street, Suite 201, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
